Halifax Cricket Club AGM and Awards 2020

Halifax Cricket Club AGM and Awards 2020

We hosted our 2nd Annual General Meeting last night at Freeman's Fairview. President Sagar Mandan and Secretary Steve Smith were both re-elected unopposed for 2 year terms, with Dhruv Mohta, Andrew Irving and Matt Lee a year into their terms.

We then celebrated the many team and individual successes of 2020 with our Awards function. Highlights included another chance to enjoy our Div 1 championship trophy, with each of squad receiving a commemorative medal.

Ajay Kumar Deb won the Div 2 MVP award after a great season where he bowled consistently well all season in Div 2 (and also every opportunity he got in Div 1), and showed great improvement with the bat culminating in a maiden 50 late in the year. His fielding was superb and he displayed a great attitude all season, ensuring his contribution was even greater than his impressive stats.

Daksh Talwar was awarded the Div 1 MVP. He was 2nd in both runs and wickets, most of this done in the all important opening positions in both. He was also our best fielder, with the most catches and always moved to the hot spots. In addition, he showed leadership whether it was mentoring players, providing tactical input to the skipper and even filling in as skipper for a couple of games.

The final award of the night was the prestigious Presidents Cup awarded to the Clubman of the Year, for contributions to the club on and off field and best exemplifying the Cannons spirit. This year it goes to Grant Whitcombe, who not only had a breakout season with the bat that resulted in provincial team selection, but also contributed greatly to the club off field. He was actively involved in organizing training sessions, ran our Instagram, and filled in for Div 2 on very short notice on multiple occasions. If there was socializing to be done, Grant would be in the middle of it, and his never-ending positive attitude helps make the Cannons a fun place to be.

So that brings a wrap to season 2020, a great year for the Cannons. We all look forward to an even better 2021.
