Recap Aug 16-18, 2024

Not a great weekend for the Cannons with all of our teams in action and only our Div 1 team coming away with the win.

Our 40 over team played their last game of the group stage against NS Avengers CC, batting first and hitting a below par 174 all out off 38.2 overs. 9 of our bats reached double figures, but nobody scored higher than Priyank Shah's patient 32. In reply, we did give ourselves a chance taking the 5th wicket with 40 still needed, but in the end we didn't have enough runs on the board. Shadab Ahmed took 2 wickets while Parmveer Aujla impressed with 1/22 off his 8 overs. The loss took our record to 3-1, but with a superior net run rate, we are guaranteed a spot in the final, against either Avengers or Titans. Scorecard

Saturday saw our top of the table Div 1 team come up against Titans. Shadab was superb in the early stages, finishing with 3/10 off his 4 overs. Skipper Zeeshan Ansari also took 3 wickets through the middle, as we restricted Titans to 8/147 off 20. Our top order kept the required rate but we lost regular wickets to be 4/75 in the 10th. From here, Antony Roche (49* off 44) and Rudy Audikesavalu (36* off 32) showed their skill and experience combining for an unbroken 73 run stand to takes us home with 6 wickets and 6 balls to spare. Scorecard

Our Div 2 team had a busy weekend with two games, and needing wins to stay ahead of the pack in the race for playoff spots. On Saturday, were played Scotia Strikers at Don Bayers, and our top order combined well to take us to 5/165 off our 20. Standouts were Rudy (45 off 36) and Priyank Trivedi (31* off 32) who combined to put on 67 for the 4th wicket. Confident of defending this good total, we chose the wrong time to put on one of our worse bowling and fielding displays in recent years, which an aggressive Strikers lineup took full advantage of to overtake us with 5 wickets and 7 balls to spare. Scorecard

Looking to rebound on Sunday against Avengers, our Div 2 team started strongly with our bowlers much improved, reducing them to 8/82 and then 9/108. Parm was brilliant with 4/21 off 4, while Nihar Shah also doing some damage with 2/10. We let them off the hook as their last pair added 34 to reach 142, but we still gave ourselves a very chaseable target. Our top order all got out to loose shots after making starts, Dhruv Mohta top scoring with 34. Our lower order fought hard to have us needing 6 runs off 8 balls with 3 wickets in hand, but we couldn't get it done and fell 4 runs short. Scorecard

Div 3 batted first on Sunday afternoon and compiled a competitive 6/142 off 20. Again, lost of guys got starts but nobody could go on to the big match winning knock we needed, Shakti Badjugar's 38 off 42 the highest. In reply, Strikers always managed to stay ahead of the required rate, passing us with 5 wickets and 9 balls to spare despite the best efforts of Harish Chandra who took 2/27 off his 4. Scorecard

Div 4 has a Friday afternoon clash against Titans, the same opponent we had in our last game. A struggle to build sustained pressure allowed them to reach 9/165 off their 20. Skipper Raj Suhagiya had the best figures with 2/24 from 3 overs. In response, we couldn't score near the required rate. Subhankar Mitra played his best knock of the year with a brisk 25, but we fell 40 runs short. Scorecard
