Recap Monday Aug 5

A busy holiday Monday for the Cannons with all 4 teams taking the field.

Our Div 1 team capped off a busy weekend with another win, very similar to their Saturday victory over Titans. Batting first at the Halifax Common against East Coast CC, openers Arslan Khan (41 off 36) and Daksh Talwar (20 off 22) put on 59 for the first wicket. The middle order didn't capitalize, but Sagar Mandhan (14 not out off 10 in his 100th game for the Cannons) and Jaideep Singh (11 off 7) lifted us at the end to 8/147 off 20. ECCC's top order all got starts in the chase, but our bowlers kept the scoring rate under target. Jaideep continued his breakthrough season with 4/18 off 4, while Satnam Singh picked up our other 3 vital wickets in one of his best spells for us. In the end, we would finish 7 runs ahead, to take sole possession of top spot. Scorecard

Our other three teams were all at Don Bayers where most hadn't played before, all against Titans, and all would see us bowl first and ultimately lose.

Div 2 were missing a number of regulars and were led by Revant Sharan for the first time. The leadership seemed to suit him as he took 3 early wickets, but Titans recovered to accumulate 8/137 off their 20. Spinners Saurabh Shreekumar and Ravi Kiran Revu took 2 wickets each as they made the jump up from Div 3 without any issue. Our run chase never got on track, the only positive being Paul Chan Chow playing his first innings of note top scoring with 23 and showing he will be valuable as the season progresses. Scorecard

Div 3 got themselves into a great position reducing Titans to 8/84, thanks largely to 2 early wickets to Fahim Chowdhury and a great spell from Kevin Tuvar of 4/17 off his 4. Missed chances at the end allowed them to escape trouble and put up a par score of 8/125. Grant Whitcombe (34 off 34) and Saurabh (29 off 36) set a good platform in our chase, but their departure prompted a drastic slowdown of our scoring rate and we fell 20 runs short. Scorecard

Div 4 also had a first time captain stepping up, with 16 year old Tommy Upton taking the reins and showing maturity beyond his years. As with Revant in Div 2, Tommy would lead the way from the front with the ball taking 2/21 off his 4, identical figures to VC Raj Suhagiya. Unfortunately the rest of the bowling lineup couldn't achieve the same economy or penetration, and with extras top scoring with 42, Titans accumulated 8/167 off 20. Gurdeep Singh Boparai (27 off 28) and Ashwin Chander (26 off 22) did well in the chase, but the total proved to be out of our reach as we ended 44 short.
