The 2023 Halifax Cricket League season gets underway this Sunday, with the Cannons Div 1 and Div 2 teams in action, while our Div 3 boys wait patiently for one more week after the long offseason we have here.
Our Div 1 team will start their championship defense against Hfx-Titans CC. 9 of last years Finals winning team are in action, with our roster staying remarkably consistent across the winter.
We also have a couple of promising recruits making their debut in Sunday's Div 1 game. Fast bowling allrounder Satnam Singh has already impressed in practice matches and will provide a big challenge for opposition top orders, and has also shown the ability to score runs quickly with the bat. We have also pulled off a coup by recruiting last year's Div 2 MVP, Vikas Salaria, and he will play a key role in our Div 1 batting line up in 2023. Satnam and Vikas will become Cannons 75 and 76 respectively. Jaideep Singh earns a promotion to Div 1 after a couple of very consistent seasons in Div 2.
Div 2 will play immediately before Div 1, and will get a rematch of the 2022 Final first up against the Titans. Tushar Sehgal takes the reins in 2023 and will also lead a team that looks very similar to the 2022 lineup. Grant Whitcombe returns to the field and will add some power to the top order, while left arm quick Sujaan Singh will become Cannon #74.
