Another win for our table topping Div 1 team, and a record breaking (and drought breaking) win for Div 4 were the highlights of our weekend, offsetting losses for Div 2 and Div 3.
Div 1 had an early Saturday morning clash with bottom ranked Scotia Strikers at Don Bayers. Batting first, Danish Khan flew out of the gates with 47 off only 28 balls. Daksh Talwar (44 off 42) and Antony Roche (26 off 24) then added a further 60 steady runs in the middle to help us to 6/153 off our 20. This would prove too much for Strikers, with Shadab Ahmed (3/37 off 4) and Zeeshan Ansari (2/8 off 2) continuing their wicket taking ways to wrap up a 33 run win. The win guarantees us first place with a game remaining, and direct qualification to the Final, a great achievement by Zee and the team. Scorecard
Div 4 would finish off our Saturday, and their season, with an amazing performance against Strikers at Halifax Common. Bowling first, Arun Kuriakose (3/26 off 4) and Tanmay Rajput (4/10 off 4) reduced Strikers to 7/33 in the powerplay! Raj Suhagiya (2/8 off 1) and Paras Kumar (1/7 off 1.4) finishing the innings off in the 11th over for only 52 - the lowest total a Cannons team has ever bowled an opposition out for! Not content with letting the bowlers set records alone, Shakti Badgujar (31* off 27) and Ashwin Chander (11* off 32) then knocked off the total on their own within 10 overs, earning our first ever 10 wicket win as a club. An astonishing effort by the whole team to conclude a tough season with just their second win. Scorecard
Earlier at the Common, our Div 3 team played their last match of the season against Halifax Titans. Bowling first, wickets were hard to come by, but our bowlers stayed disciplined to concede only 137 from our 20 overs. Our spinners Harish Chandra and Saurabh Shreekumar picked up a wicket each in tight spells, with a run out and a retired out taking us to 4 wickets total. Despite the best efforts of Ravi Kiran Revu (46 off 44) and Muneeb Ahmedani (22 off 14), we just couldn't score with enough consistency and fell 11 runs short. Scorecard
Sunday saw Div 2 wrap up our weekend with a must win clash against East Coast. Bowling first, we picked a bad time for our worst fielding display of the season, dropping multiple chances allowing their dangerous lineup to compile a huge 6/218 off their 20. Sagar Mandhan was our best with 1/25 off 4 in the early exchanges. We started aggressively with the bat scoring at or near the required rate all the way through, but this aggression saw wickets fall regularly and we were all out in the 16th over for 156, 62 runs short. Nisarg Patel (36 off 25) and Hiren Patel (39 off 27) continued their good recent form. After winning the championship last year, we will miss the playoffs this season. One more game to go next weekend to finish on a high. Scorecard
