Weekend Recap September 17-18, 2022

Our Division 3 team have qualified for the semi final for the first time, with a resounding win over East Coast Cricket Club this weekend. This followed Division 1's loss to Halifax Titans CC, meaning they will need to wait until the final round next weekend to confirm their semi final spot.

Division 1 played first and sent Titans in to bat first. They batted well and we couldn't find a way to take wickets in a bunch to stem the scoring, and they ended at 4/176 off 20. Daksh Talwar was the best of the bowlers with 2/23 off his 4 overs, while Shadab Ahmed was also good with 1/26 off 4.

We couldn't build any momentum in the chase, only Antony Roche (30 off 19) finding a way to score at the required rate. We struggled to 9/129 off our 20 overs, ensuring we kept our Net Run Rate ahead of Titans as their win drew them level on points in the standings. Whether Cannons or Titans take 3rd spot will now depend on the results of their final games next weekend against Avengers and East Coast respectively. Scorecard

Division 3 then took the field with a simple equation - a win gets the team into the semi final, a loss and the season is over. East Coast sent us in and we lost a wicket in the first over, but then Ahsan Hafeex (23 off 25) steadied the innings together with Nisarg Patel. Nisarg (44 off 43) and Kevin Tuvar (32 off 24) then put together the defining partnership of 71 in 7.1 overs, after which Hiren Patel (11 off 8) and Gurpreet Sidhu (31 off 12, with 3 sixes) built upon to take us to 7/166 off 20. A great time for our best team batting effort of the season.

East Coast started their chase well reaching 45 off 5, but Souvik Mitra's call to bowl a 3rd over paid off as he claimed 2 wickets in successive balls to halt the momentum. Spinners Hiren (3/17 off 4) and Kevin (4/8 off 3) then dominated proceedings, destroying their lineup before Gaganpreet Singh took the last wicket off his first legal delivery. All out 91, a collapse of 10/46 with the last 7 wickets falling for just 20. The boys delivered when needed and now look forward to the semi final on October 2. Scorecard
