Our Division 3 team won one of their two games on Saturday, keeping them well in the hunt for a playoff position without yet securing it. Meanwhile, our Div 1 team missed a chance of gaining top spot on the standings on Sunday.
Div 3's first game against Nova Scotia Avengers saw us sent in on a wet outfield and only manage 97 all out off 19 overs, with Gaganpreet Singh top scoring with 20 off 16 balls at number 9. We fought hard defending the low total, forcing Avengers to take 17.2 overs to get the runs, but ultimately we had nowhere near enough on the board. Kazi Rahman took 2 wickets with his leg spin, while Gagan and Jawad Naimat took one apiece. Scorecard
The boys were straight back into action against Halifax Titans, and showed character to keep the league leaders to 8/120 off 20. It should've been even better as we had them 7/58 and then 8/82, but still a very chaseable score. Jaideep Singh and Jawad took 2 wickets each, while Raj Suhagiya conceded only 13 runs from his 4 overs while picking up one. Again our top order struggled to build any momentum and we fell to 5/46 and 6/81, but Kazi mixed power with intelligence to hit 46 off 24 balls, and together with Jaideep (17 off 13), took us to the target with 4 wickets and 16 balls to spare for a very important win that keeps us in 3rd spot with a game to play. Our Div 1 team fielded first after Halifax Titans won the toss and elected to bat. We took consistent wickets throughout the innings, but Titans also managed to keep the run rate up as they finished with 9/148 off 20. Priyank Trivedi was the best of our bowlers with 4/23 off his 4 overs, with Daksh Talwar picking up 2 wickets. In reply, we could never get above the asking rate, and lost wickets just as we looked like we may start to get going. Daksh batted very well for his 55 off 44 balls, but he just couldn't find a partner to build the winning stand with. We eventually fell 21 runs short. Scorecard
