Weekend Recap September 9-10, 2023

2 great wins today in Div 1 and Div 3 over East Coast CC make it a good weekend for the Cannons, after our Div 2 team lost to top of the table Halifax Titans CC yesterday.

Div 1 batted first and we put on our best batting performance of the year, reaching 4/189 off our 20 overs. Danish Khan got us started well with 24 off 20. But it would be Daksh Talwar (56* off 43 balls) and Zeeshan Ansari (63* off 26 balls) playing the defining knocks, their partnership worth an unbeaten 80 off only 32 balls to close out the innings in style. Daksh hit 4 fours and one six, relying on timing and placement in his innings that set the platform, while Zee used brute force with 7 massive leg side sixes including 3 off the last 3 balls. Shadab Ahmed and Ajay Deb took a wicket each in the powerplay, but East Coast retained a sniff at 2/98 in the 12th. Priyank Trivedi then struck 3 times in 5 balls to extinguish their hopes, the last 8 wickets falling for 41 runs. All out 139, a 50 run win for the Cannons, and no deep dive into decimal points required to see the impact it would have on both teams net run rate. Scorecard

Div 3 were up next in a must win game against the same opposition, who sat a win ahead of us in the standings in 3rd place. Captain Steve Smith rotated his bowlers well, with 6 bowlers all picking up a wicket each in their first 2 over spells. Raj Suhagiya would be the first to return for a 2nd spell, and finished with 3/18 off 4. Kazi Rahman took his first wickets for the Cannons. his leg spin earning him the figures of 2/8 off 2.4 overs, including a maiden. Mohammed Tanweer took 2/19 off 3, with Tommy Upton, Maryo John and Ahsan Hafeez rounding out the attack with a wicket each in tight spells. Ashwin Chander and Subhankar Mitra blew away any chasing concerns putting on 33 at quicker than a run a ball. We then cruised our way to victory with 7 wickets and 21 balls to spare, Ashwin finishing on 40 not out. Draws us level with both Avengers and East Coast, and with our next 3 games against these two teams, the battle for 2nd and 3rd place is hot. Scorecard

Earlier, on Saturday, Div 2 played Halifax Titans CC with first place on the line. Skipper Tushar Sehgal and new ball partner Revant Sharan got us off to a great start as Titans fell to 3/12 inside 4 overs. Their middle order played well to bounce back and at one stage 160 looked on the cards, but Revant bowled a great second spell to finish with Cannons career best figures of 4/11 off 4. Gaganpreet Singh also bowled well at the death taking 2/12 off 3 overs, and with Hiren Patel doing his usual thing, we managed to keep Titans to 134 all out off 20. Titans bowled very accurately early on, not allowing us to get ahead of the required rate. A few guys got starts but nobody kicked on, and we fell 24 runs short managing only 6/110 off our 20.
