2 wins and a loss for the Cannons across the first 3 days of this August long weekend, with all 4 of our T20 teams in action today.
Our 40 over team took an unbeaten record into Friday's clash with Scotia Strikers CC. Strikers opted to bat first, Shadab Ahmed and Sagar Mandhan ensuring they couldn't maximize the powerplay restricting them to 31 off the first 8 with a wicket each. Despite a 5th wicket partnership of 101, our bowlers kept things tight all the way through. Shadab returned for his 2nd spell and removed both half centurions, finishing with 3/46 off his 8. Strikers ended at 8/210 off their 40.
We started ahead of the rate, but lost a couple of wickets to be 2/54 in the 10th. Arslan Khan, in his 50th match for the Cannons, picked a great time to hit his first 50 for the club, joining forces with Antony Roche (58 off 67) for a 101 run union. Arslan fell soon after for 76 off 84, but Rudy Audikesavalu (24* off 19) ensured a few late wickets wouldn't be an issue as we passed the target with 3 wickets and 20 balls to spare. Scorecard
Div 1 backed up at 8am the next morning against Titans at Don Bayers. Batting first, most of our top order got starts but couldn't go on, Rudy continuing his strong recent form by top scoring with 33 off 25. All out for 133 in the last over, a little less than we would have liked, but very defendable on this tough pitch. It would take us until the 14th over to get our 2nd wicket, but tight bowling meant they were only 73 at that stage. Jaideep Singh was superb with 2/16 off his 4 overs, while Shadab again led the way conceding only 14 off his 4. Daksh Talwar also took 2 in the middle, as we never let them get ahead, eventually winning by 10 runs. Scorecard
Div 4 played Sunday afternoon against an East Coast CC lineup who opted to bat first. They came out hard hitting 21 off the first and 59 from the first six. The introduction of spin in the form of Muneeb Ahmedani (3/22 off 4) turned things around, as he worked in tandem with Abdullah Khan (2/21 off 3) to slow the scoring. They accelerated again at the end, finish 7/161 off their 20. A 55 run partnership between Muneeb (39 off 19) and Raj Suhagiya (16 off 17) gave us as sniff, but there was little else contributed as we fell to 101 all out in only 14.2 overs. Scorecard
